Pune: Using Passenger Autos for Goods Transport? RTO Warns of Legal Action
Pune, 17th July 2026: The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has warned autorickshaw permit holders against using passenger autorickshaws for transporting goods, stating that strict action will be taken against violators under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
In a public advisory issued on Friday, the RTO said passenger autorickshaws holding permits for carrying commuters must not be used to transport goods such as porter services or through app-based delivery platforms.
The RTO said it has come to its notice that some passenger autorickshaws are being used for unauthorised goods transportation. Such vehicles are violating the conditions of their passenger permits and will face legal action in accordance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and the applicable rules.
The advisory by Deputy RTO urged all autorickshaw owners and drivers to ensure that their vehicles are used only for the purpose specified in their permits and not for commercial goods transportation.
