Pune: Bhigwan Goods Shed Loads First Automobile Rake, 26 More Rakes in Pipeline

Pune/Solapur, 21st July 2026: Solapur Division of Central Railway has commenced automobile loading from Bhigwan Goods Shed, adding a new category of freight traffic to its network. The first New Modified Goods (NMG) rake carrying automobiles was loaded on July 19, 2026, from Bhigwan for B.R. Transcon Limited Goods Cargo Terminal in Rangiya Division of Northeast Frontier Railway at Kamrup district in Assam.

According to Central Railway, the new automobile traffic is expected to strengthen freight operations, with 26 indents already registered for loading automobiles from Bhigwan to destinations across the country. These include Fatuha (Bihar), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Farakhanagar (Haryana), Chitpur (West Bengal), Mandideep (Madhya Pradesh), Hatia (Jharkhand), Kankariya (Gujarat) and Okhla (Delhi).

Railway officials said the expected freight revenue from each automobile rake is estimated between ₹16 lakh and ₹22 lakh.

Bhigwan Goods Shed has gradually expanded its freight handling operations over the past two years. The handling line, which was previously used only for ballast handling, was opened for commercial freight operations in May 2024. Coal unloading began the same month, while iron bar unloading commenced in January 2026.

To support the growing freight business, Central Railway developed the circulating area and approach road at the goods shed to improve infrastructure and facilitate easier access for freight customers.

The automobile loading initiative was implemented under the supervision of the Solapur Division, with coordination from the Commercial and Operations departments, the Business Development Unit, and officials from Bhigwan and Kurduvadi.

Railway officials said the addition of automobile loading marks a new freight stream for Bhigwan Goods Shed as the Division continues to expand its freight operations to multiple destinations across the Indian Railways network.
