A Fun Trek Turned Into a Nightmare: Rockfall Injures Four at Harishchandragad

Pune, 21st July 2026: Four tourists were seriously injured after a rockfall struck a popular trekking route near the Adva Kada (Konkan Kada) viewpoint at Harishchandragad on Sunday afternoon. Two of the injured were trapped under debris before being rescued by fellow trekkers and local villagers. Officials said a safety railing installed at the site helped prevent a major tragedy.

According to officials, a group of 10 tourists from Malad, Mumbai, was descending from Harishchandragad when a section of the hillside behind the Adva Kada area suddenly collapsed. Mud, rocks and boulders came crashing down onto the trekking trail, striking the group. Four tourists sustained serious injuries, while two were trapped beneath the debris.

The incident triggered panic among visitors. Members of the group, along with local resident Amol Badad, immediately alerted villagers and the Forest Department. Villagers rushed to the spot and, with the help of fellow trekkers, rescued the two trapped tourists from beneath the mud and rocks.

The injured were carried on the shoulders of rescuers to the foothills before being transported in a private vehicle towards Rajur. An ambulance intercepted the vehicle en route and shifted the injured to the Rural Hospital in Rajur, where they received initial treatment from Dr Abhinav Lahamate.

Considering the severity of their injuries, all four were referred to the District Civil Hospital in Nashik for advanced treatment.
The injured have been identified as Ramprakash Yadav, Nilesh Gomati Vishwakarma, Krishnakumar Sahu and Dinesh Sanjay Sahu. Officials said the condition of three of them remains critical.

After receiving information about the incident, Assistant Police Inspector Kishor Pawar of Rajur Police Station, Forest Range Officer Dattatray Padwal and other officials reached the site, supervised the rescue operation and coordinated the evacuation of the injured to Nashik.

Authorities have urged trekkers to exercise extreme caution while visiting Harishchandragad and the Malshej Ghat region during the monsoon. Continuous rainfall has made hill slopes and rock faces highly unstable, significantly increasing the risk of landslides and rockfalls.
