Kondhwa, 21th July 2026 : A neglected amenity space near Sunshree Society in the NIBM area is being transformed into a dedicated recreational centre for senior citizens under the initiative of Ward No. 19 (Kondhwa Khurd–Kausarbaug) Corporator Gafur Pathan.
The amenity space, located in the NIBM locality that was recently included in Ward No. 19, had remained in a dilapidated condition for several years. After residents of Sunshree Society brought the matter to the attention of the corporator, redevelopment work was initiated to restore the site and convert it into a modern public space for elderly residents.
According to the proposed plan, the facility will include landscaped gardens, walking pathways, seating areas and other amenities designed to provide senior citizens with a safe and comfortable environment for daily walks, relaxation and social interaction. Work on the project has already commenced.
Speaking about the initiative, Corporator Gafur Pathan said, “This amenity space had been neglected for a long time. After residents brought the issue to my notice, we immediately initiated redevelopment work. Our aim is to create a modern recreational space for senior citizens with walking tracks, seating areas and greenery, so they have a safe and comfortable place to spend their time. We are committed to completing the project at the earliest.”

The initiative has received a positive response from local residents, particularly senior citizens, who said the project would significantly improve the quality of life in the neighbourhood.
One senior citizen resident said, “This is a wonderful initiative by Corporator Gafur Pathan. Senior citizens in our area have long needed a dedicated space where we can walk, sit and interact with others. We are happy that the work has already begun and look forward to using this recreation centre once it is completed.”
Residents expressed hope that the redevelopment would not only enhance the appearance of the locality but also provide a much-needed community space where elderly citizens can spend time in a healthy, peaceful and accessible environment.
