Pune: Residents of NIBM Annex Raise Concerns Over Sewage Flow

Mohammadwadi, 21th July 2026: Residents of the NIBM Annex, Mohammadwadi have raised serious concerns over untreated sewage water continuously flowing through a canal behind their residential societies- Archana Paradise and Krishna Nagar, alleging that repeated complaints to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have gone unanswered.

According to residents, the stagnant sewage has created an unhygienic environment, with a persistent foul smell, mosquito breeding, and increasing fears of waterborne and vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria. Senior citizens, children, and families living in the area are among those most affected.

Residents have submitted a written complaint to PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, urging immediate intervention. In the letter, they alleged that despite multiple complaints over the past several months, the issue has not been resolved. They have demanded strict action against the officials responsible for the delay, immediate cleaning of the affected stretch, permanent repairs to stop the sewage flow, and a visit by the Commissioner to inspect the site.

Nitin D’Souza, a resident of Archana Paradise, said, “The sewage has been flowing continuously behind our society, creating an unbearable situation for everyone. The foul smell has become a part of our daily lives, and we are worried about the health of our children and senior citizens. Despite repeatedly informing the authorities, the problem still remains unresolved.”

Another resident, said, “We pay our taxes regularly, but basic civic issues like sewage management continue to be ignored. We are only asking for a clean and healthy environment. The authorities must take immediate action before the situation worsens.”

Responding to the complaints, Sanjay Gaikwad, Superintending Engineer (SE), Pune Municipal Corporation, said, “I will instructed the concerned Deputy Engineer to visit the site and assess the situation. He will inspect the location and take the necessary steps to implement the most suitable solution possible.”

Residents are now hoping that the site inspection will lead to immediate action and a permanent solution to the long-pending sewage problem, which they say has been affecting their quality of life for months.
