Balewadi, 24th October 2026: A 14-year-old boy allegedly stabbed his Class IX schoolmate in the face and chest on the premises of a private school in Balewadi on Friday afternoon, nursing a grudge over videos of girl students dancing during a school picnic that he had posted on social media, police said.

The victim girl sustained multiple injuries and was taken to a hospital in Baner. She is stable and out of danger, police said. Bavdhan police have detained the boy and are in the process of registering an attempt-to-murder case against him.

According to police, the dispute originated during a school picnic to Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani on October 17 and 18. The boy had recorded videos of girls dancing during an event and uploaded them to his Instagram account. Following objections and arguments with other students, he was forced to delete the videos.

Holding a grudge over the incident, the boy allegedly attacked the girl with a knife around 2.15pm on Friday, police said.

Deputy commissioner of police (Zone II) Pradip Jadhav said the girl was receiving treatment and her condition was stable. Assistant commissioner of police Vitthal Kubade said the boy had been detained and further legal action was under way.

School authorities said the injured student was given first aid before being shifted to hospital. The school also expelled the accused student under its disciplinary procedures.

In a statement, the school said it was strengthening campus security, including strict checks of bags carried by senior students, to prevent similar incidents. Counsellors have also been deployed to provide emotional support to students, while the school is cooperating with the police investigation.

As the incident involves minors, the school urged people to respect the privacy of the students concerned.
