Pune: Khadakwasla Dam to Release 3,825 Cusecs into Mutha River at 8 PM; Citizens Asked to Stay Away from Riverbed
Pune, 23rd July 2026: The Khadakwasla Irrigation Division has announced that water will be released from the Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha River from 8 pm on Thursday due to a rapid rise in the reservoir level following heavy rainfall in the dam’s catchment area.
According to the department, an initial discharge of 3,825 cusecs will be released through the dam spillway. The authorities have also cautioned that the discharge may be increased or reduced depending on rainfall intensity and the inflow into the reservoir.
Quoting the Executive Engineer of the Khadakwasla Irrigation Division, the department said, “Due to the rapid increase in the water level of the Khadakwasla reservoir and heavy rainfall in the catchment area, a discharge of 3,825 cusecs will be released into the Mutha River from 8 pm today. The discharge may be revised upward or downward depending on rainfall and inflow conditions.”
The Executive Engineer appealed to citizens to stay away from the riverbed and urged people to immediately remove any materials, equipment, or livestock from low-lying areas along the river. Local authorities have also been requested to alert residents living near the river and take necessary precautionary measures.
The irrigation department has advised the public to remain vigilant and follow all safety instructions until further notice.
