Planning an Event in Pune? New Police Order Prohibits Sky Laser Beams Near Airport

Viman Nagar, 24th July 2026: Pune Police have prohibited individuals and event organisers from projecting high-intensity beam lights and laser beams into the sky near Pune airport, citing the risk of distracting pilots and causing aviation accidents, Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Darade said.

The prohibitory order will come into force on July 25 and remain effective for 60 days. It applies within an approximately 15-km radius of the Lohegaon Air Force and civil airport facilities, as well as within the jurisdiction of the Pune City Police Commissionerate.

“Commercial aircraft, Indian Air Force aircraft and helicopters land at and take off from the Lohgaon Air Force Station and civil airport during the day and at night. After dark, runway and Air Traffic Control tower lights are used to indicate directions and locations to pilots,” Darade said in the order issued on July 23.

“The Indian Air Force authorities have pointed out that high-intensity beam lights and laser beams are projected into the sky during various programmes organised near the Lohgaon airfield and in other areas under the Pune City Police Commissionerate,” he said.

“Such high-intensity beams and laser lights could distract pilots, potentially resulting in an accident,” Darade added.

Exercising his powers as a Special Executive Magistrate under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, Darade ordered that no individual or event organiser should project high-intensity beam lights or laser beams into the sky in the specified areas.

“The order will remain in force for 60 days from July 25, 2026. Anyone violating it will be liable for legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita,” Darade said.
