Pune Rural Police Constable, Journalist Named in Rs 1 Crore Robbery Case; One Arrested
Khed Shivapur, 26th July 2026: The alleged involvement of a journalist and two police personnel from Rajgad Police Station has come to light in connection with the robbery of ₹1 crore from a businessman in Narhe, police said.
Police have arrested journalist Ashish Tiwari, while Pramila Nikam, a woman police employee at Rajgad Police Station, and Aziz Mestri are absconding, according to police.
The robbery took place around eight days ago in Narhe, where a businessman was allegedly robbed of ₹1 crore. After the incident, the accused allegedly drove the vehicle carrying the cash from Narhe to the Khed Shivapur Police Chowky, raising questions about how a vehicle carrying allegedly looted cash reached a police outpost.
According to the investigation, after the vehicle carrying the cash was brought to the police outpost, Tiwari, Nikam, Mestri and two others allegedly attempted to dispose of ₹20 lakh of the cash illegally for their own financial benefit.
The alleged activity came to the attention of Rajgad Police Inspector Santosh Jadhav, who immediately reached the Khed Shivapur Police Chowky. After noticing the alleged irregularities, Jadhav reportedly took custody of the cash and the accused and handed them over to the Narhe Police for further action.
Police said the alleged attempt to dispose of the cash was captured on CCTV cameras installed at some hotels located near the police outpost. Jadhav also reportedly submitted a confidential report to Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill, along with CCTV footage and details regarding the alleged handling of the cash by police personnel, the journalist and two others at the police outpost.
According to the Narhe Police investigation, Tiwari, Nikam, Mestri and two others have been found to have allegedly played a role in the case. They have subsequently been named as co-accused in the case.
Tiwari has been arrested by the Pune Police, while Nikam, Mestri and the other accused are absconding and efforts are underway to trace them.
A total of 10 people have been booked in connection with the case.
Further investigation is underway.
