Pune: PCMC Mayor Asks Maha Metro to Revise DPRs With Eye on City’s Future Growth
Pimpri Chinchwad, 27th July 2026: Pimpri Chinchwad Mayor Ravi Landge has asked Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha Metro) to revise the Detailed Project Report (DPRs) for the proposed metro corridors, stressing that the network should be planned keeping in mind the city’s long-term growth rather than its present-day needs.
“Given Pimpri Chinchwad’s rapid pace of development, the metro project should be designed not only for today’s requirements but also with a vision for the coming decades. The DPRs should be suitably revised to create an inclusive, future-ready metro network that serves the interests of citizens,” Landge said.
He said this during a review meeting attended by Maha Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar, Maval MP Shrirang Barne, MLC Uma Khapre, MLAs Mahesh Landge and Shankar Jagtap, Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar, Standing Committee chairman Abhishek Barne, Leader of the House Prashant Shitole, Opposition leader Bhausaheb Bhoir, Shiv Sena group leader Vishwajit Barne, Republican Party representative Khunal Vahvalkar, City Engineer Manoj Sethiya, Additional Commissioner Trupti Sandbhor and other civic and Maha Metro officials.
During the meeting, Hardikar gave a presentation on the proposed metro expansion and the DPRs prepared by Maha Metro. Officials briefed the participants on the proposed alignments, passenger projections, feasibility studies, future expansion plans, integration with other public transport systems and their compatibility with the city’s development plan.
Public representatives emphasised the need to ensure that the proposed metro network effectively connects emerging residential neighbourhoods, industrial estates, IT parks, educational institutions, commercial hubs and major transport corridors. They also suggested that the DPRs should be revised to account for future population growth and the city’s expanding limits.
The meeting also stressed the importance of seamless last-mile connectivity through feeder bus services, adequate parking, multimodal transport integration, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure and dedicated cycling tracks to improve access to metro stations.
Participants noted that an expanded metro network would help ease traffic congestion, reduce pollution, support the growth of the industrial and IT sectors and make daily commuting more convenient for residents.
“Pimpri Chinchwad is among the fastest-growing cities in the country. The metro project must be planned keeping in view the city’s future population, industrial expansion, growth of the IT sector and rising travel demand. A metro network designed with a long-term vision will provide a new direction to the city’s development,” Landge said.
