Pune: Amid Heavy Rain, MSEDCL Staff Wade Into River to Restore Electricity in Junnar
Pune, 27th July 2026: In a display of dedication amid challenging weather conditions, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) employees restored power supply to a village in Junnar taluka by entering the swollen Meena river to retrieve and repair snapped electricity lines with the help of local residents.
The power lines supplying Nigale Wasti in Sonawale village, under the Apatale sub-division in western Junnar, had snapped and fallen into the Meena river after heavy rain and strong winds lashed the area on July 23.
As the river was in spate and the current was extremely strong, MSEDCL officials said repair work could not be undertaken immediately due to safety concerns. Continuous rainfall over the following days further delayed restoration efforts.
To minimise inconvenience to residents, MSEDCL personnel launched a repair operation on Sunday (July 26) despite persistent rain. Assisted by villagers, the employees entered the river while water was still flowing, retrieved the damaged conductors and successfully restored the power supply to the affected locality the same day.
The operation has drawn appreciation from local residents, who lauded the electricity staff for risking their safety to restore power under difficult conditions.
MSEDCL officials said the incident reflects the commitment of field staff to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply even during natural disasters and adverse weather.
