Pimpri Chinchwad Police forms SIT to Probe Alleged Sexual Assault of 10-Year-Old Girl
Pune, 30th July 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to expedite the investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl in Wakad. The SIT comprises five police officers and five police personnel and is headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sunil Kurhade.
According to the police, the SIT has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive investigation by examining all evidence, witness statements and technical aspects of the case. The police aim to complete the investigation at the earliest and file a chargesheet before the court without delay.
Meanwhile, a court has remanded the accused to seven days of police custody, during which the SIT will carry out further interrogation and collect additional evidence.
The case came to light after the Wakad Police arrested a 65-year-old mason, identified as Ramzan Bannoosab Bagwan, a resident of Tathawade, for allegedly repeatedly sexually assaulting the minor after threatening to kill her.
According to the complaint lodged by the girl’s 30-year-old mother at the Wakad Police Station, the accused allegedly threatened the child with a knife and took her to his house when no one was present. Police alleged that he repeatedly sexually assaulted the girl between May and July 27, 2026.
The complaint further states that the accused also allegedly took the complainant’s four-year-old daughter to his house during the same period after covering the child’s mouth.
The alleged offences came to light after a woman reportedly saw the accused taking one of the children to his house and informed the girl’s mother. The family subsequently approached the police, who registered a case and arrested the accused.
ACP Sunil Kurhade said the investigation is being conducted on priority and that the SIT has been formed to ensure a thorough probe and the timely filing of the chargesheet before the court.
