Pune: Appu Ghar Set for Major Revamp with Rs 18.6 Crore Private Investment
Pimpri Chinchwad, 30th July 2026: Appu Ghar, the iconic amusement park at Indira Gandhi Udyan in Nigdi that has been a landmark for generations of Pimpri-Chinchwad residents for the past 35 years, is set to undergo a major transformation with a private investment of Rs 18.6 crore. The proposal for the redevelopment, along with additional recommendations, has been approved by Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne.
Known as one of the oldest recreational attractions in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Appu Ghar has long served as a popular destination for children and families. However, most of its rides are now between 20 and 35 years old. With ageing infrastructure and outdated attractions failing to appeal to younger visitors, the park has witnessed a significant decline in footfall, affecting its revenue. Increasing competition from newer amusement and tourism destinations also highlighted the need for a comprehensive modernisation of the facility.
The redevelopment proposal also takes into account the financial losses suffered during the Covid-19 pandemic, when the amusement park remained closed from March 16, 2020, to January 2022. The civic administration had proposed granting the operator a two-year extension beyond the original contract period, along with a revision in rental rates in accordance with the contract terms. The proposal was approved with additional recommendations by Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne.
The redevelopment will be undertaken by Pushpak Amusement through a private investment of Rs 18.6 crore. The upgraded park will feature a range of modern attractions, including a log flume water ride, flying cinema, 360-degree immersive dome, horror house, mirror maze, infinity tunnel, artificial Niagara waterfall, kids’ traffic park, arcade games, augmented reality and virtual reality zones, and interactive selfie zones.
The park will also be redeveloped around nature and children’s themes, with enhanced landscaping and modern visitor amenities. Planned facilities include a digital ticketing system, queue management, smart parking, a modern food court, improved drinking water facilities and upgraded drainage infrastructure.
Safety has been given top priority in the redevelopment plan. The project will incorporate mandatory fire safety systems, CCTV surveillance, emergency response mechanisms, structural safety measures, guest insurance and public liability insurance, while ensuring compliance with all prescribed safety standards.
According to Abhishek Barne, the project is expected to be completed within 12 to 18 months. Under the revised agreement, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will receive a 10% increase in rent during the first year, followed by a 5% annual increase thereafter. He said the upgraded Appu Ghar is expected to strengthen Pimpri-Chinchwad’s tourism profile, generate local employment and provide a boost to businesses in the area.
