Pune: Khadakwasla Dam Discharge Increased to 4,708 Cusecs Amid Heavy Rain
Pune, 30th July 2026: The discharge from Khadakwasla dam into the Mutha river has been increased from 2,996 cusecs to 4,708 cusecs from 1 pm on Thursday following a rapid rise in the reservoir’s water level due to heavy rainfall in its catchment areas, the Khadakwasla Irrigation Division said.
According to the irrigation department, the release may be increased or reduced further depending on the intensity of rainfall and inflows into the reservoir.
As of 6 am on July 30, Khadakwasla dam had reached 100% of its live storage capacity and was releasing 2,998 cusecs into the Mutha river. Among the other reservoirs in the Khadakwasla project, Panshet was at 98.39% capacity with a discharge of 17,976 cusecs, Temghar stood at 89.69%, Mulshi at 85.66%, Pavana at 97.18%, and Varasgaon at 93.49%, with no discharge from Varasgaon and Temghar at the time.
The department has appealed to citizens not to enter the Mutha riverbed and to immediately remove any materials, equipment or livestock from the river channel. Authorities have also been asked to alert residents living in low-lying areas and take necessary precautionary measures in view of the increased discharge.
