New Delhi, 1st August 2026: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the official bank holiday calendar for August 2026, with banks set to remain closed for a total of 14 days across different parts of the country. The holidays include national celebrations, regional festivals, and the usual weekend closures, making it important for customers to plan their banking activities in advance.

The 14-day holiday count includes all Sundays, the second and fourth Saturdays, as well as state-specific holidays observed for festivals such as Raksha Bandhan, Independence Day, Onam, Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi), and Id-e-Milad. Since bank holidays vary by state, not every branch across the country will remain closed on all 14 days.

Customers are advised to check the holiday schedule applicable to their respective state before visiting a bank branch. While physical branches will remain closed on notified holidays, digital banking services, including internet banking, mobile banking, UPI, ATMs and cash deposit machines, will continue to operate as usual.

The RBI’s holiday calendar categorises closures under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holidays and bank account closing days. As a result, some holidays are observed only in select states depending on local festivals and regional events.

With several holidays falling throughout the month, customers planning to visit bank branches for cheque clearances, document verification or other in-person services are advised to complete their work on operational days to avoid inconvenience.
