Pune: Major Fire Averted After MNGL Gas Pipeline Leak on Porwal Road in Dhanori
Dhanori, 5th August 2026: A major disaster was averted in Pune’s Dhanori on Tuesday after a leak in a Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) pipeline triggered a fire near Psycho Pets on Porwal Road.
According to initial information, gas leaking from the underground pipeline seeped into an underground water tank located beside the road. The accumulated gas ignited, resulting in a massive blaze that alarmed residents and commuters in the area.
The Pune Fire Brigade rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the alert and launched firefighting operations. Firefighters managed to bring the situation under control before the flames could spread to nearby structures or vehicles, preventing what could have been a far more serious incident.
No injuries or casualties have been reported in the incident so far.
Officials from MNGL also reached the location and took immediate steps to isolate the affected section of the pipeline by shutting off the gas supply, allowing emergency personnel to safely extinguish the fire. Similar incidents in the past have required the gas supply to be temporarily suspended until repairs were completed.
The exact cause of the pipeline leak is yet to be officially confirmed. Authorities are expected to carry out a detailed inspection to determine how the gas escaped and accumulated inside the underground water tank.
The incident once again highlights the risks associated with underground gas infrastructure and the importance of rapid emergency response. Thanks to the swift action of the Pune Fire Brigade and MNGL officials, a potentially catastrophic accident was successfully averted.
