Wakad: Poddar International School Gate Collapse Claims Security Guard’s Life; Family Alleges Negligence
Pune, 5th August 2026: A 52-year-old security guard succumbed to his injuries after a heavy sliding iron gate collapsed on him at Poddar International School in Wakad. The victim’s family and local residents have alleged negligence on the part of the school management, claiming that repeated complaints about the gate’s condition were ignored.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Nagnath Kamble, a resident of Ashoknagar, Tathawade. The incident occurred at around 8:10 am on July 31, when Kamble was opening the school’s main sliding gate.
According to available information, the gate, weighing nearly two tonnes, derailed from its track and fell on him, causing severe head and facial injuries.
He was immediately rushed to Lifepoint Multispeciality Hospital in Wakad, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Despite intensive treatment, Kamble succumbed to his injuries at around 4:45 pm on August 2.
Following the incident, the victim’s family, school staff and local residents alleged that the gate had been in a hazardous condition for a considerable period. They claimed that repeated complaints about its faulty alignment and safety risks had been brought to the attention of the school management, but no corrective action was taken.
The family has demanded strict legal action against those responsible and urged the police to register a case against the concerned authorities for alleged negligence. They have also sought a detailed investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.
