Pune, 6th August 2026: The Pune City Traffic Police have intensified their crackdown on vehicles fitted with illegal modified “firecracker” silencers, taking action against 274 vehicles in a special enforcement drive conducted between August 2 and August 6.

According to the Pune Traffic Police, a total fine of ₹2.74 lakh has been imposed on motorists found using modified silencers that produce excessive and disturbing noise. Of this, ₹1.22 lakh has already been recovered and deposited with the government.

During the operation, traffic police also removed and seized 84 modified silencers from offending vehicles. Action against the remaining vehicles is still underway, officials said.

DCP (Traffic) Sandeep Bhajibhakare said the special drive is aimed at curbing noise pollution and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.
“Vehicles fitted with illegal modified or ‘firecracker’ silencers create excessive noise, causing inconvenience to the public and contributing to noise pollution. Pune Traffic Police will continue to take strict action against such violations. We appeal to all motorists to follow traffic rules and avoid using unauthorised modified silencers so that we can collectively build a noise pollution-free Pune,” Bhajibhakare said.

The Pune Traffic Police have warned that the enforcement campaign will continue across the city, and motorists found violating the rules will face stringent action under the applicable provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
