Pune Traffic Police Help Nab Two Absconding Accused in Rs 93 Lakh Cyber Fraud Case

Pune, 6th August 2026: Alert personnel of the Pune City Traffic Police played a crucial role in apprehending two absconding accused wanted in a ₹93 lakh cyber fraud case registered in Thane, following coordinated efforts with the Kopri Police Station.
According to DCP (Traffic) Sandeep Bhajibhakare, the accused were traced and detained on August 5 by officers and personnel from the Faraskhana Traffic Division after Thane Police shared technical intelligence indicating that the suspects were in Pune’s Appa Balwant Chowk area.
The accused have been identified as Akshay Sanjay Tambe (22) and Omkar Vishnu Shirsath (24). They were wanted in connection with a case registered at Kopri Police Station, Thane City, under Crime Register No. 299/2026 for allegedly cheating a complainant of ₹93 lakh. The case has been registered under Sections 204 and 308(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.
Based on technical analysis, the Investigating Officer from Kopri Police informed the Faraskhana Traffic Division that the accused were believed to be in the Appa Balwant Chowk locality. Acting on the information, traffic personnel launched a search operation in the area.
During routine checking, traffic personnel on duty stopped the suspects and questioned them about the moped they were riding. Their evasive responses raised suspicion, prompting the officers to detain them and initiate legal action regarding the vehicle. Subsequent verification using confidential inputs confirmed that the two men were the absconding accused in the high-value cyber fraud case.
The accused were taken to the Faraskhana Traffic Division office, after which the Kopri Police were informed. They were subsequently handed over to the Thane Police for further legal proceedings.
DCP (Traffic) Sandeep Bhajibhakare said the successful detention highlights the vigilance, coordination and prompt response of the Pune Traffic Police. He commended the personnel involved for their alertness, which led to the arrest of two wanted accused in a serious financial crime.
