Pune: Minister Madhuri Misal Directs PMC Officials to Clear Metro Debris, Crack Down on Illegal Hawkers
Pune, 7th August 2026: Maharashtra Minister of State for Urban Development, Transport, Social Justice, Medical Education, Minority Development and Waqf, Madhuri Misal, on Friday chaired a review meeting to assess issues related to traffic management, roads, potholes, encroachments and waste management in Pune city. The meeting also reviewed ongoing infrastructure projects and civic issues affecting residents.
One of the key issues discussed was the proposed rent hike for traders at Mandai market and the allotment of commercial shops constructed under the Pune Metro project. The minister directed officials to immediately clear construction debris left behind after Metro works and restore roads to their original condition to minimise inconvenience to commuters.
Expressing concern over traffic congestion caused by unauthorised street vendors, Misal instructed the civic body’s encroachment department to take effective action against illegal hawkers in accordance with the rules.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of the Pune Municipal Corporation’s cluster development projects in Ekta Nagar, Nimbus Nagar and the Vitthalwadi area. Officials were directed to resolve pending issues and expedite work on the redevelopment projects.
To strengthen the city’s waste management system, discussions focused on speeding up waste segregation and making the process more efficient. Officials were asked to improve garbage collection and disposal mechanisms to provide a cleaner and healthier environment for citizens.

The minister also directed officials to expedite the land acquisition process in the Sinhagad area and resolve pending road-related issues at the earliest. She emphasised that infrastructure issues affecting the daily lives of citizens should be treated as a priority to accelerate the city’s overall development.
The meeting was attended by Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, Deputy Mayor Parashuram Wadekar, Kasba MLA Hemant Rasane, Khadakwasla MLA Bhimrao Tapkir, Leader of the House Ganesh Bidkar, Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Estate) Prajit Nair, Pune Metro Project Manager Dhananjay Gadgil, along with heads of various civic departments and other officials.
