NIBM-Undri Road residents demand speed breaker near P&G Jewellers, cite safety concerns

Pune, 8th August 2026: Residents living along the NIBM-Undri Road have demanded the installation of a proper speed breaker near P&G Jewellers, citing the risk posed by speeding vehicles and the heavy movement of traffic on the stretch.
The demand was raised by Irfan Khan, a resident of Shivshankar Garija Co-operative Housing Society in Kondhwa, through an application submitted to the authorities. Following the application, the Kondhwa Traffic Division inspected the location and forwarded its observations to the Pune Municipal Corporation for necessary action.
According to the traffic division’s report, the NIBM-Undri Road near P&G Jewellers is narrow and does not have a road divider. The road connects to the Manterwadi-Katraj main bypass and witnesses traffic movement from Wanawadi, Salunkhe Vihar, Kondhwa, Mohammadwadi, Undri and Pisoli.
The surrounding areas also have several schools, resulting in regular movement of school buses along with local and heavy vehicles. Residents say speeding vehicles on the stretch pose a safety risk to pedestrians, motorists and schoolchildren.
Irfan Khan said, “The road near P&G Jewellers sees vehicles moving at high speed, creating a serious safety risk for residents, pedestrians and schoolchildren. We have requested a proper speed breaker because we believe it is the only effective solution to control vehicle speed and prevent accidents. The authorities should act before a major accident takes place.”
Another resident said, “We are not asking for anything complicated. A proper speed breaker at this spot will force vehicles to slow down and make the road safer for everyone. The authorities should understand the ground situation and take action quickly.”
Residents also stressed that temporary measures would not adequately address the problem.
“This road is used by residents, schoolchildren and school buses every day. Vehicles often pass through the area at high speed. We strongly believe that installing a speed breaker is the only solution to control speeding and prevent a serious accident,” another resident said.
The Kondhwa Traffic Division inspected the spot and stated that measures to reduce vehicle speed could help prevent accidents. The department has asked the concerned PMC engineer to inspect the location and take an appropriate decision regarding the installation of rumble strips or a speed breaker.
However, residents have made it clear that their demand is specifically for a proper speed breaker, which they believe is necessary to slow down vehicles and improve safety on the busy road.
The traffic division has stated that it has no objection to further necessary action by the civic authorities. Residents are now awaiting the PMC’s decision and have urged officials to install the speed breaker at the earliest.
