Pune: Potholes in Mohammadwadi Raise Safety Concerns; Residents Demand Urgent PMC Action
Mohammadwadi, 8th August 2026: Potholes on several roads in Mohammadwadi have become a growing safety concern for residents, with senior citizens, school-going children, two-wheeler riders, pedestrians and school buses facing difficulties while navigating the damaged stretches.
Several roads in the area have developed deep and uneven potholes, making commuting difficult and increasing the risk of accidents. Two-wheeler riders are particularly vulnerable, as sudden movement over potholes can cause them to lose balance and suffer injuries.
Residents have also raised concerns about school buses travelling through the affected roads. The damaged stretches make it difficult for buses carrying schoolchildren to navigate safely, particularly during peak traffic hours.
Sadik Khan, Founder and President of the Mohammadwadi Welfare Group, said, “Potholes are not just a road-maintenance issue; they are a serious safety concern for our residents. Senior citizens, children and school buses are particularly at risk. We request the PMC to take immediate action and repair these roads before any serious accident takes place.”
Jaymala Dhankikar said, “Residents have been facing this problem for a long time, and the condition of the roads is becoming increasingly dangerous. The PMC should not wait for an accident to happen before taking action. Proper road repairs are urgently required, especially on stretches used by schoolchildren and senior citizens.”
Nadim Imandar said, “Every day, residents are forced to travel through roads filled with potholes. During peak hours, two-wheeler riders have to suddenly slow down or change direction to avoid the damaged portions, which can itself lead to accidents. The PMC needs to inspect these roads and carry out permanent repairs instead of temporary patchwork.”
Tara Singh said, “The safety of residents should be the priority. School buses, elderly people and pedestrians are particularly affected by the poor condition of these roads. We appeal to the PMC to take immediate cognisance of the issue and ensure that the potholes are repaired properly.”
Residents said temporary filling of potholes would not provide a long-term solution and demanded proper resurfacing of the damaged stretches. They have urged PMC officials to conduct an inspection of the affected roads and undertake durable repair work at the earliest.
Residents also warned that if the damaged roads are not repaired soon, the risk of accidents could increase, particularly during the monsoon when potholes can become difficult to identify due to rainwater accumulation.
They have appealed to the PMC to address the issue on priority and ensure safe roads for motorists, pedestrians, schoolchildren and other residents of Mohammadwadi.
