Sinhagad, 11th August 2026: A late-night vandalism incident at a residential society in Pune’s Hingne Khurd area triggered concern among residents after several parked vehicles were damaged in the early hours of Tuesday.

The incident occurred at around 2 am at Suyog Society in Vishrantinagar, Hingne Khurd, under the jurisdiction of Sinhagad Road Police Station.

According to the police, Milind Krishnaji Punekar, 47, a resident of Flat No. 23 at Suyog Society, contacted the 112 emergency helpline and reported that the rear windows of four to five cars parked inside the society premises had been smashed.

Following the complaint, the night patrol officer and police marshals launched a search for the person allegedly responsible for the vandalism.

During the search, police identified the accused as Shantanu Suresh Mend, 19, who is currently residing at an SK Asha Goggles shop in Vishrantinagar, Hingne Khurd, along Sinhagad Road. He was subsequently arrested by the police.

Case registered under Arms Act and BNS

A case has been registered at Sinhagad Road Police Station under Crime Register No. 289/2026 under Sections 4/25 of the Indian Arms Act and Section 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police have arrested the accused in connection with the incident. According to the police, Mend has no previous criminal cases registered against him.

Investigation underway

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident and the motive behind the alleged vandalism are yet to be established. Police are investigating the sequence of events and are expected to examine available CCTV footage and other evidence from the area.

While initial reports circulating about the incident mentioned a larger group and damage to several vehicles, the police information currently available confirms the reported damage to four to five vehicles and the arrest of one accused.

The investigation will also establish whether anyone else was involved and determine the full extent of the damage caused to the vehicles.
