Pune: PMC Chief Sets December 2026 Deadline for Sadhu Vaswani Bridge Project

Pune, 11th August 2026: Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram on Tuesday inspected the ongoing work on the Sadhu Vaswani Bridge project and reviewed its progress, directing officials to complete the project by the end of December 2026.

The civic administration said the necessary coordination, permissions and technical formalities with the traffic police and railway authorities have been completed, following which work on the project has gained momentum. The project has an original construction period of 2.5 years, with the civic body planning to complete the work within this period from the date of commencement.

A key and technically challenging component of the project is the approximately 54-metre-long Open Web Girder railway span at Sadhu Vaswani Chowk. More than 240 trains pass through the railway section every day, making it necessary to plan the construction work while ensuring the safety and uninterrupted movement of railway traffic.

An existing one-metre-diameter overhead water pipeline at the railway span had been obstructing the project. The pipeline has now been shifted and laid underground, the civic body said. Work to remove the existing overhead truss structure at the railway span has also been taken up by a newly appointed contractor through the PMC’s project department and is expected to be completed within a week.

Following this, the launching of the 54-metre-long Open Web Girder is planned to be completed by the end of September. Once work on the railway span is completed, the remaining three spans will be taken up simultaneously to accelerate the overall project.

During the inspection, Commissioner Ram reviewed the technical complexities of the project, the heavy movement of trains and the coordination required with various departments. He directed officials to accelerate the work and ensure that the project is completed by the end of December 2026.

The municipal commissioner will conduct monthly on-site reviews of the project to monitor its progress and ensure that it remains on schedule.

The PMC project department is coordinating continuously with the railway authorities, traffic police and other concerned agencies to plan the work while ensuring railway safety and compliance with all technical requirements, the civic body said.

Additional Municipal Commissioner (Special) Omprakash Divte, Chief Engineer (Projects) Dinkar Gojare, Chief Engineer (Roads) Rajesh Bankar, Deputy Commissioner Asha Raut, Deputy Commissioner Santosh Warule and other officials and staff were present during the inspection.
