Pune: Family Turns Grief Into a Gift of Life After 28-Year-Old Is Declared Brain-Stem Dead

Loni, 12th August 2026: The family of 28-year-old Deepak Bhanudas Mulekar, who died after sustaining severe injuries in an accidental fall, consented to donate his organs, helping patients awaiting life-saving transplants.

Mulekar, a daily-wage worker, was carrying out roofing work at his home when he accidentally fell from the second floor. He sustained serious head injuries and was admitted to Dr Viththalrao Vikhe Patil Pravara Rural Hospital in Loni, Ahilyanagar, on Sunday, August 9.

Despite treatment, his condition deteriorated and he was declared brain-stem dead as per established medical criteria.

Following his death, Mulekar’s wife and brother made the decision to donate his organs. The move enabled the retrieval and allocation of his organs to hospitals in Pune and Nashik for transplantation.

According to the hospital, Mulekar’s lungs have been allocated to D. Y. Patil Hospital in Pune, while his liver has been allocated to Sahyadri Hospital, Pune. His kidneys have been allocated to KIMS Manavata Hospital in Nashik.

The organ donation is expected to benefit multiple patients suffering from end-stage organ failure and awaiting transplantation.

The decision came at a time of profound grief for Mulekar’s family. His wife and brother consented to organ donation, allowing his death to potentially give others a chance at a new life.
