‘Mirchi Asa Ghadla Maharashtra’: Radio Mirchi Announces a New Show Celebrating Maharashtra’s History

Pune, 13th August 2026: With an aim to take the history of Maharashtra’s making and the fascinating, lesser-known stories behind it to a new generation, Radio Mirchi has announced its new radio show, ‘Asa Ghadla Maharashtra’. Featuring the voice and narration of renowned actor Subodh Bhave, the show will uncover several little-known facets of Maharashtra’s history and bring them alive for listeners.

The show will go on air from August 24, 2026, and will be broadcast from 8:00 am to 10:00 am and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A special launch event was held on Wednesday at the Lokmanya Multipurpose Co-operative Society Limited office on Law College Road, Pune. Speaking on the occasion, Subodh Bhave said, “When family members come together, they often share stories from the past. Those stories give us energy and inspire us to do something new. Maharashtra is one large family, and through this programme, we hope to bring alive several fascinating and lesser-known stories connected to the making of our state. This is an attempt to reconnect people with their roots and their soil. My selfish motive is to take my Maharashtra to the people.”

Highlighting the challenges of radio narration, Bhave said, “It is not easy to connect with an audience and hold their attention through just your voice, without showing your face. I have also been learning many things from RJs. For Asa Ghadla Maharashtra, the Radio Mirchi team has undertaken extensive research and gathered credible information.”

Referring to the ideals and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Bhave said that one of the greatest lessons from Maharaj’s life was to take everyone along without discrimination based on caste or community. “Rather than limiting Shiv Jayanti celebrations to playing songs or carrying flags, it is important to bring his thoughts into our everyday lives. Through this programme, we hope to bring positive thoughts into an increasingly negative environment and reconnect people with their soil and history. We must take pride in our glorious history and valour. We should also proudly speak Marathi and never feel ashamed of our language.”

Jayesh Patil, Business Head, Radio Mirchi, said, “At a time when negative news constantly surrounds us, we asked ourselves—who will tell the good stories? After discussions with Subodh Bhave, we decided to create this programme. The script has been developed through extensive research and a great deal of effort.”

Speaking about Lokmanya Multipurpose’s journey, Sushil Jadhav said that the institution has been operational since 1995 and has completed 20 years of operations in Pune. It has 213 branches and deposits of approximately ₹12,000 crore, of which around ₹4,000 crore are from Pune. He also highlighted the contribution of the institution’s Chairman, Kiran Thakur, who began Tarun Bharat in Belagavi and worked throughout his life towards Marathi language and its prosperity. Various aspects of Belagavi’s history will also be explored through the programme.

The initiative is supported by Lokmanya Multipurpose, Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), and Chandraroop Cloth Stores.

The event was hosted by Mirchi RJ Nimi, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Smita Ranadive, Zonal Head – Content, Radio Mirchi.
