Pune, 14th August 2026: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licences or registrations of 16 hotels, restaurants, e-commerce and dairy establishments in the Pune division following inspections conducted between August 11 and 14 as part of the “Safe Food, Safe Drug, Safe Maharashtra” campaign.

The inspections were conducted under the direction of Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. According to a press note issued by the FDA’s Pune division, officials found unhygienic conditions and violations of food safety regulations at the establishments. Their licences or registrations were suspended with immediate effect.

FDA Joint Commissioner (Food) D.V. Bhogawade said, “During the inspections, serious lapses related to hygiene and compliance with food safety regulations were found at several establishments. Action has been taken against the establishments as per the provisions of the law, and such inspections will continue.”

The establishments named in the FDA press note are:

Hotels and restaurants:

Fortune Enterprises (Hotel Sayaji), Lonavala, Maval taluka, Pune

Hotel Chul Mutton, Nagar Road, Jakat Naka, Khandave Nagar, Lohegaon, Pune

Simply South, Jay Maharashtra Chowk, Bhosari, Pune

Hotel Pawan, Sarlashkar Park, Indumati Road, Tarabai Park, Kolhapur

Rajesh Chinese, Panchmukhi Maruti Road, Sangli

JBM Hospitality canteen, HDFC Bank, Golden East, Wanwadi, Pune

Burger King, East Street, Solapur Bazar, Camp, Pune

Domino’s Pizza, Jubilant Foods Works Ltd., Malakapur, Karad, Satara

The FDA said JBM Hospitality was specifically ordered to stop operations after it was found to be operating without a valid licence.

The department also announced a special drive from Monday, August 17, against establishments selling high-fat, high-sugar and high-salt (HFSS) foods in school areas. According to the FDA, the sale of HFSS or junk food within 50 metres of schools is prohibited. Food businesses found violating the restriction will face action under food safety laws.

Consumers can report complaints related to food quality or hygiene to the FDA helpline at 1800-222-365 or through the Maharashtra FDA’s complaint portal. The department said strict action against establishments violating food safety regulations would continue.
