Pune: Garbage Heaps, Open Dumping Plague Chakan MIDC; Industries Left to Fend for Themselves

Chakan, 18th August 2026: In the absence of a dedicated waste management facility, open garbage dumping continues to be a major concern in the Chakan MIDC area, with industrialists demanding a permanent solution.

Garbage heaps have been reported at several locations across the industrial belt. Industrialists said no government agency, including MIDC, regularly collects waste from their premises. While some units hire private contractors for waste disposal, others allegedly resort to open dumping or burning of garbage. The open dumping, according to the industrialists not just results into negative impression for their clients, some of their employees are also suffering from serious health issues due to it.
