Pune Traffic Diversion: Check New One-Way Routes Near Council Hall, Sadhu Vaswani Chowk
Pune, 19th August 2026: The Pune City Traffic Police have announced changes to traffic movement on two key stretches in the Bund Garden traffic division to reduce persistent congestion and improve road safety.
The new arrangements will come into effect on an experimental basis from August 22, 2026, according to a press release issued by the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Pune.
Under the revised plan, vehicles will not be allowed to travel from Council Hall Chowk towards Sadhu Vaswani Chowk. The stretch will operate as a one-way route for vehicles travelling in the opposite direction—from Sadhu Vaswani Chowk towards Council Hall Chowk.
Motorists travelling from Council Hall Chowk towards Sadhu Vaswani Chowk have been advised to turn right at Blue Nile Chowk, proceed towards I.B. Chowk, and then continue to their destinations using the available connecting roads.
The traffic police have also introduced one-way movement on the approximately 400-metre Church Path Road stretch between Kirad Chowk and Marriage Registration Office.
As an alternative, vehicles travelling from the SBI Bank side towards Kirad Chowk should turn left near Marriage Registration office, proceed straight, and then take a right turn to reach their destinations.
Residents may submit objections or suggestions regarding the new arrangements in writing to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) at Yerawada Post Office Building, Bungalow No. 6, Airport Road, Pune, between August 22 and September 5, 2026.
The police will examine the feedback before issuing a final order. Emergency-service vehicles, including fire engines, police vehicles and ambulances, will be exempt from the restrictions.
Traffic police have appealed to motorists to use the designated alternative routes and cooperate with personnel deployed in the area.
