Late-Night Security Sweep at Pune Railway Station; 37 Booked for Unauthorised Entry
Pune, 20th August 2026: A joint security and law-and-order operation at Pune Railway Station and surrounding areas led to action against 37 people for trespassing or unauthorised entry into railway premises, with the RPF recovering ₹18,500 in fines.
The combing operation was conducted from 9:30 pm on August 19 to 1 am on August 20 under the leadership of senior officials of the Railway Protection Force, Government Railway Police and Pune Police. The drive covered the railway station and nearby areas.
A total of 17 police officers and 90 police personnel, nine RPF officers and 34 personnel, and three Pune Municipal Corporation officers along with 35 staff participated in the operation. Eight police teams were deployed to check different locations.
During the drive, security personnel checked unauthorised persons, people found sleeping on railway premises, beggars suspected to be under the influence of intoxicants and other suspicious persons. Hotels and lodges in the surrounding areas were also inspected.
Pune Railway Police and Bundgarden Police checked 72 suspicious or unauthorised persons. Of these, 15 were handed over to their relatives under Section 69 of the Maharashtra Police Act.
Four deserted and poorly illuminated locations around the railway station were also checked during the operation.
The Pune Municipal Corporation took action in 21 cases involving unauthorised stalls, handcarts and hawkers and seized material as per rules.
Traffic Police carried out vehicle checks at Alankar Chowk and Jehangir Chowk, inspecting 146 vehicles and taking action in various cases.
As part of the operation, 13 hotels and lodges were inspected. Their managements were directed to verify guests’ identity documents and the purpose of their stay and report any suspicious activity to Bundgarden Police Station or through the 112 emergency helpline.
The operation was carried out jointly by RPF Pune, Pune Railway Police, Bundgarden Police Station, traffic police units, Koregaon Park Traffic Department and Pune Municipal Corporation.
