Pune: 17-Year-Old Found Hanging, Mother Dead in Same Baramati House; Probe Underway

Baramati, 22nd August 2026: A 41-year-old woman and her 17-year-old son were found dead under suspicious circumstances at their home in Dada Patilnagar area of Tandulwadi in Baramati on Friday, triggering concern in the locality.

The deceased have been identified as Rama Vijay Gawade (41) and her son Vivek Vijay Gawade (17). Vivek was found hanging from a metal angle with a cotton rope, while Rama was found lying near a window in another part of the house. A dark mark was reportedly found around her neck, raising questions over the circumstances of her death.

The incident came to light around 11 am on Friday after Rama’s husband, Vijay Ramdas Gawade, returned home from work. Vijay, who works at GTN company in the Baramati MIDC area, had left for work on Thursday night.

On finding the house locked, Vijay called out to his wife and son but received no response. He then sought the help of neighbour Suraj Bhimrao Shinde. After the door was opened, Vivek was found hanging inside the house.

Rama was found lying on her back near a window and did not respond when family members tried to wake her. The family subsequently informed relatives and the police. Both were taken to the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Government Medical College and General Hospital in Baramati, where doctors declared them dead.

While Vivek appeared to have died by suicide, the mark on Rama’s neck has raised suspicion about the circumstances surrounding her death. Police said the exact cause of death will be established through medical reports and the ongoing investigation.

Baramati Taluka Police have registered the incident and begun investigating. Police are also questioning family members and local residents to establish what happened inside the house.

The Gawade family, originally from Karhavagaj, has been left devastated by the deaths, with the incident causing shock in the locality.
