Miraj/Pune, 24th August 2026: Shiv Sena MLAs Rajesh Kshirsagar and Suhas Babar on Sunday said they would urge Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to allocate the Pune Teachers’ Constituency to the Shiv Sena and nominate health activist Mangesh Chivate for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council election.

The two MLAs were speaking at a teachers’ and ideal educational institutions awards ceremony organised by the Eknath Swabhimani Shikshak Sena in Miraj. State Health Minister Prakash Abitkar addressed the gathering through video conference.

Kshirsagar and Babar said Chivate, who has worked extensively in the health sector and helped thousands of needy patients, should be given an opportunity to represent the Pune Teachers’ Constituency in the Legislative Council.

They said a public representative like Chivate, who has consistently raised issues concerning teachers, educational institutions and the general public, should have a voice in the Legislative Council.

“Chivate’s work in the health sector is known to everyone. From helping poor and needy patients access treatment to consistently pursuing issues concerning teachers and ordinary citizens, his contribution to public service has been noteworthy,” the MLAs said.

The two leaders said Shiv Sena MLAs and representatives of teachers’ organisations would jointly meet Fadnavis and Shinde and seek Chivate’s candidature from the Pune Teachers’ Constituency, citing his social, educational and healthcare-related work.

The event also indicated growing support among Shiv Sena legislators and teacher representatives for Chivate’s candidature, with the argument that his experience in social and healthcare work could help strengthen the voice of teachers, educational institutions and the common people in the state legislature.
