Maharashtra Rain Alert: Heavy Showers Likely in Pune-Satara Ghats, Yellow Alert for 10 Districts
Pune, 24th August 2026: After a brief lull in rainfall over the past few days, weather conditions conducive to rain have now developed across Maharashtra, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting an increase in rainfall intensity in the coming days.
On Monday, heavy showers are likely over the ghat sections of Pune and Satara districts, while a yellow alert has been issued for several districts in Marathwada and eastern Vidarbha for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.
According to the weather department’s forecast, heavy rainfall is possible in the ghat areas of Pune and Satara. In Marathwada, Parbhani, Hingoli and Nanded districts, and in eastern Vidarbha, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli are likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning and rain.
Authorities have appealed to residents to remain in safe places, particularly during periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Rainfall activity is also expected to increase in north Maharashtra. Dhule, Jalgaon and Nashik districts are likely to receive rain accompanied by lightning. In other parts of the state, cloudy conditions are expected, with light showers likely at some places.
Meanwhile, rain-friendly weather conditions have also developed across several other parts of the country. Rainfall activity is expected to intensify over northern, western and northeastern India. The weather department has issued warnings of rain and strong winds across at least 15 states on Monday, with wind speeds in some areas likely to reach 50-60 kmph.
Delhi is likely to receive moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, which could provide some relief from the heat and humid conditions. Several districts in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are also expected to receive light to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds.
Parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have been warned of heavy rainfall, while several districts in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh could experience heavy to very heavy rain. Rain is also likely in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.
The weather department has advised residents in affected areas to follow official weather advisories and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
