Maharashtra Hikes PUC Certificate Charges By 20%: Check New Rates For Two-Wheelers, Cars

Pune, 24th August 2026: Pune motorists will now have to shell out a little more while getting their vehicles’ Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates, with the Maharashtra Transport Department increasing PUC testing charges by 20% across vehicle categories.

The revised charges apply to two-wheelers, three-wheelers, petrol and CNG four-wheelers, as well as diesel vehicles across Maharashtra.

Under the new fee structure, two-wheeler owners will now pay ₹60 for a PUC certificate, up from ₹50. For petrol three-wheelers, the charge has increased from ₹100 to ₹120, while the fee for petrol and CNG four-wheelers has gone up from ₹125 to ₹150. Diesel vehicle owners will now have to pay ₹180, compared to the earlier charge of ₹150.

The Transport Department has also directed authorised PUC centres to clearly display the revised charges, allowing motorists to check the applicable fee before making the payment.

Why Have PUC Charges Been Increased?

The hike comes after the Maharashtra State PUC Centre Owners Association requested an increase in testing charges. Following the request, the Transport Department constituted a three-member committee to examine the matter.

The committee reviewed PUC testing charges in other states, along with other factors related to the cost of conducting the tests, before recommending a revision in Maharashtra.

For vehicle owners, the increase means a relatively small addition to the cost of keeping their vehicles compliant with pollution-control requirements. However, the revised charges are applicable across vehicle categories, making it important for motorists to be aware of the new rates.

Pune Motorists Face Some Confusion Over Revised Rates

While the revised fee structure has been announced, its implementation has reportedly caused some confusion in Pune. Some authorised PUC centres were continuing to charge the older rates as the online system had not yet been updated with the revised charges.

The Transport Department has instructed PUC centres to follow the new fee structure and display the updated rates prominently at their premises.

Motorists visiting a PUC centre in Pune can therefore check the displayed charges before making the payment and ensure they are being charged according to the revised fee structure.

A valid PUC certificate is mandatory for petrol, diesel and CNG vehicles operating on Indian roads under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. With the latest revision, vehicle owners across Maharashtra will now have to factor in the increased testing fee while renewing their pollution certificates.
