Pune RTO Launches MH 61 Series, Invites Applications For Fancy Numbers
Pune, 25th August 2026: The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has begun the process of introducing the new MH 61 registration series for two-wheelers and four wheelers, marking the end of the long-running MH 12 series associated with Pune. Vehicle owners seeking choice or fancy numbers under the new series have been asked to submit their applications as per the notified schedule.
The RTO has sought the government’s permission to continue the MH 12 series with certain modifications, but a decision on the proposal is still awaited. Meanwhile, the new MH 61 series, including numbers such as MH 61 B 0001, will be issued for the vehicles.
Regional Transport Officer Archana Gaikwad has issued notices detailing the application process and special arrangements made in view of Shravan, Raksha Bandhan and related holidays. Applications for preferred numbers for two wheelers and acceptance of demand drafts will be allowed on August 29 and 30 from 10.30am to 1.30pm, with subsequent slots notified for two-wheeler applications and DD acceptance.
Similarly, for four wheeler vehicles, the applications will be accepted on August 27 while the demand drafts will be accepted on August 28.
Choice numbers will be allotted as per the Maharashtra government’s rules and notification dated August 30, 2024. Applicants must submit the prescribed fee and a single DD for the additional choice-number amount. Incomplete applications or applications containing multiple DDs in one packet will be rejected. Aadhaar is mandatory for linking applications with preference numbers.
After the preference-number process is completed, remaining numbers will be allotted online through the government’s fancy-number portal. Applicants will not need to remain physically present at the RTO for this stage.
