Pune: 61-Year-Old Grandfather Gets Life Imprisonment for Sexually Assaulting Minor Granddaughter

Pune, 25th August 2026: A special POCSO court in Vadgaon Maval has sentenced a 61-year-old man to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 70,000 for repeatedly sexually assaulting his minor granddaughter.

Special Judge Dattatray Anbhule pronounced the judgment in the case, which was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

According to the prosecution, the incidents took place between April and November 2024. The accused allegedly visited the girl’s house when her parents were away at work. He would send her younger siblings to watch television or play outside before sexually assaulting the girl repeatedly.

The case came to light after the girl’s mother noticed changes in her behaviour and questioned her. The girl then disclosed the abuse to her mother, following which she approached the Dehu Road police and lodged a complaint.

Police arrested the accused and initiated an investigation. Then Assistant Inspector Anita Dugavkar conducted the investigation and filed a chargesheet against him.

During the trial, Special Public Prosecutor Santosh Pardeshi and advocate Lalchand Oswal examined five witnesses. The girl testified before the court. Her mother’s testimony was supported by evidence presented by the medical officer and investigating officer.

The prosecution argued that the repeated sexual assaults were serious offences and sought stringent punishment for the accused.

The court also rejected the defence’s claim that the accused had been falsely implicated in the case for financial gain. The court observed that the accused, who was related to the girl, had taken advantage of the family relationship to commit the offence.

The court directed that the Rs 70,000 fine be paid to the girl as compensation.
