Pune: Mandai Parking Contract Cleared Despite Corporators Raising Fee, Recovery Concerns
Pune, 26th August 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s general body on Tuesday approved the tender for operating paid parking at Mahatma Phule Mandai for three years. The contract will be cancelled immediately and the parking taken over by the civic body if the operator accumulates arrears beyond one month.
M/s India Enterprises emerged as the highest bidder with an annual offer of Rs 62.07 lakh — 46.22% above the civic body’s base rate of Rs 42.43 lakh. Five tenders were received.
During the debate, corporators Ajit Ghule, Arvind Shinde, Ravi Tingre, Vishal Malke, Puneet Joshi and Ajay Khedekar flagged concerns over higher-than-prescribed fees, citizen harassment and poor recovery of dues. Ghule noted that complaints against paid parking operators rarely led to action, while Shinde pointed out that some operators continued despite non-payment.
The civic body has drafted improved parking regulations after studying systems in major metro cities. The draft will be placed before the general body next month, said Project Department Chief Engineer Dinkar Gojare.
