Raksha Bandhan 2026: PMPML to Deploy 1,945 Buses Across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad
Pune, 26th August 2026: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has planned to operate 1,945 buses at full capacity across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, suburban areas and the PMRDA region during the Raksha Bandhan festival.
Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on Friday, August 28, and PMPML expects a significant increase in passenger footfall as people travel to meet family members. To accommodate the additional demand, the transport body has planned full-capacity bus operations for three days — August 28, 29 and 30.
Weekly offs cancelled for staff
As part of the arrangements, weekly holidays of bus conductors, drivers and supervisory staff have been cancelled to ensure adequate manpower for the increased services.
Officials have also been deployed at major bus stations to monitor and manage bus operations and passenger movement.
PMPML said the arrangements have been made to ensure that passengers travelling during the Raksha Bandhan period have access to adequate public transport services.
The transport body has appealed to citizens in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, surrounding areas and the PMRDA region to take note of the additional bus services and make use of public transport during the festival.
