Pune, 27th August 2026: A financial dispute that kept two close friends apart for nearly a decade has finally been resolved through a settlement, with the parties agreeing to settle the Rs 4.85 lakh dispute for Rs 2.5 lakh.

The two men, identified as Sonu and Monu (names changed), had been friends for nearly 10 years and were involved in the business of buying and selling vehicles. Monu also operated a garage.

According to the case, Monu approached Sonu in 2015 seeking financial assistance after facing difficulties in his business. Trusting his friend, Sonu withdrew a total of Rs 4.85 lakh from his bank account in June and July 2015 and lent the money to Monu.

Monu had reportedly assured Sonu that the amount would be repaid within two to three months. However, despite repeated requests, the money was not returned.

In January 2016, Monu issued a cheque for Rs 4.85 lakh towards repayment. The cheque was later dishonoured due to insufficient funds in his bank account.

Following the failed repayment, Sonu initiated legal proceedings against his friend. The case remained pending for nearly 10 years after proceedings began on March 16, 2016.

Lawyers help resolve decade-long dispute
The matter was eventually settled after lawyers representing both sides intervened and encouraged the two friends to communicate and find a mutually acceptable solution.

Advocate Parikshit Bade, representing the complainant, and Advocate Sudhir Mule, representing the accused, brought the two sides together for discussions. Following negotiations, both parties agreed to settle the dispute for Rs 2.5 lakh and decided to bring the prolonged legal battle to an end.

The settlement also helped resolve the personal differences that had developed between the two friends over the years. After the matter was settled, the two embraced each other and became emotional during their reunion.

“Ending a legal dispute that continued for 10 years is not merely a legal victory. The real objective was to give both parties an opportunity to move forward peacefully. The bitterness caused by a financial dispute was removed through dialogue and mutual understanding, and their friendship was restored,” Advocate Sudhir Mule said.

The settlement has brought an end to a decade-long legal dispute arising from a financial transaction and has also paved the way for the two friends to move beyond their differences.
