Pune: 16-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Married at Temple in Bhor; Seven Booked
Bhor, 27th August 2026: The Rajgad police have registered a case against seven people, including the parents of a 16-year-old girl, after she was allegedly married at a temple in Bhongavali village in Bhor taluka in May.
The accused include the girl’s parents, the alleged groom and his parents, a relative and the priest who allegedly conducted the marriage.
According to police, the alleged child marriage took place at the Datta temple in Bhongavali around noon on May 12, 2026. The girl, who is from Udmai Wadi in Indapur taluka, was allegedly married to Rishabh Baban Kurumkar, a resident of Vaghdari in Shrigonda taluka of Ahilyanagar district.
The complaint alleges that the girl’s parents were aware that she was below the legal age for marriage when they allegedly agreed to the wedding.
Parents, groom and priest among seven accused
The case was registered following a complaint by Shaila Gangaram Atol, a gram panchayat officer, at the Rajgad police station.
Those named in the case include the girl’s father, Santosh Baban Ghadge, and mother, Rupali Santosh Ghadge. The alleged groom, Rishabh Kurumkar, and his parents, Baban Daulata Kurumkar and Seema Baban Kurumkar, have also been named as accused.
Police have additionally named Nilesh Shivaji Ghadge, a relative, and the priest who allegedly solemnised the marriage according to Hindu rituals. Police said the identity and address of the priest have not yet been established.
Case registered months after alleged marriage
The alleged marriage took place on May 12, but the case was registered on August 22 at around 10.05 am after the matter came to the attention of the authorities.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged child marriage, including who arranged the ceremony, the role of the girl’s parents and other accused, and whether anyone else was involved in organising the wedding.
Assistant Police Inspector Rathod is conducting the investigation under the supervision of Police Inspector Jadhav, in-charge of Rajgad police station.
Further investigation is underway.
