Pune: Vehicle Registrations Surge in Pimpri Chinchwad in July; Two-Wheelers Lead

Pimpri Chinchwad, 27th August 2026: July proved to be a positive month for the automobile sector in Pimpri Chinchwad, with registrations of two-wheelers, cars and commercial vehicles recording significant growth compared with the corresponding month last year.

The upward trend has continued into the first half of August, according to vehicle registration data. While registrations of most vehicle categories have increased, three-wheelers and tractors have recorded a decline. Commercial vehicle registrations rose by 32.1%, while two-wheeler registrations increased by 29.1%.

In July 2026, as many as 12,542 two-wheelers were registered in Pimpri Chinchwad, compared with around 9,717 in July last year. This represents an increase of about 2,825 registrations.

Car registrations also witnessed a substantial rise. A total of 5,534 cars were registered in July this year, compared with around 4,577 in the same month last year, representing a growth of 20.9%.

Apart from personal vehicles, the commercial vehicle segment also recorded strong growth. As many as 1,468 commercial vehicles were registered in July 2026, compared with around 1,111 in July last year. The segment added about 357 registrations, translating into a 32.1% increase.

In contrast, three-wheeler registrations declined sharply. Officials attributed the fall partly to the non-issuance of permits for new passenger autorickshaws in the city. Only 307 three-wheelers were registered in July 2026, compared with around 636 in July last year, marking a decline of 51.8%.

Tractor registrations also fell in Pimpri-Chinchwad. A total of 136 tractors were registered in July this year, compared with around 165 in July last year, resulting in a 17.6% decline.

The decline in tractor registrations in the city, however, contrasts with the broader national trend. Tractor retail sales across India increased by around 28% year-on-year in July, indicating positive demand in the segment nationally.

The continued growth in two-wheeler, car and commercial vehicle registrations in Pimpri Chinchwad indicates sustained demand for both personal and commercial mobility, while the sharp fall in three-wheeler registrations reflects local regulatory factors affecting the passenger autorickshaw segment.
