Pune Auto Drivers Who Charge by Meter and Accept Passengers Honoured
Pune, 27th August 2026: Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar felicitated auto-rickshaw drivers who follow meter-based fares and do not refuse passengers at a programme held outside Pune Railway Station on Thursday.
The event, organised by the Pune Rickshaw Chalak Union (N) Savdhan, began at around 11 a.m. near the auto-rickshaw stand opposite the railway station. It recognised drivers for providing reliable and fair service to commuters in the busy station area.
Commissioner Kumar praised former corporator and union president Ravindra Malwadkar for taking the initiative to honour drivers who set a positive example. He said the Pune Railway Station area receives a large number of passengers every day and stressed that maintaining discipline was a shared responsibility.
He urged auto-rickshaw drivers and other stakeholders to follow traffic regulations and cooperate with the police to prevent congestion around the station.
A heavy spell of rain began while the commissioner was addressing the gathering at the open-air venue. Referring to the disruption, he said another felicitation programme for deserving auto-rickshaw drivers would soon be organised at a spacious indoor venue.
Among those present were Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police P.R. Patil, Bund Garden Police Station Senior Inspector Santosh Pandhare, Railway Police officer Pramod Khopikar, Ravindra Malwadkar, Vitthal Gaikwad, president of the Rickshaw Shahu Phule Ambedkar Vichar Manch, and youth leader Shivraj Malwadkar.
