Pune: Fadnavis Asks MSETCL to Minimise Local Impact of Bhor Green Corridor Project

Pune, 28th August 2026: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed officials of the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (MSETCL) to find a solution to the proposed transmission lines and GIS substation at Bhongavali in Bhor taluka that minimises the impact on local residents.

The directions were issued at a meeting chaired by Fadnavis at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai to discuss the proposed GIS substation at Bhongavali, which is part of the Centre’s green corridor being developed to facilitate transmission of renewable energy.

Fadnavis directed officials to examine feasible alternatives after considering the proposed substation site, alignment of transmission lines and the projected increase in electricity demand in the future.

According to the local committee, farmers in Bhor have already lost land for various development projects and are now being asked to part with additional land for the transmission project. Fadnavis said the government had taken note of the concerns raised by local residents and that discussions would be held with them to find a solution.

Nearly 40 per cent of the project work has already been completed, he said.

“Electricity demand is increasing significantly in an industrial district like Pune. If the required substations are not established, the district could face a major power shortage in the future,” Fadnavis said. Substation projects are also underway in several other talukas of Pune district, he added.

The chief minister said the government would examine ways to minimise the loss to local residents due to the substation, make optimum use of the available land and address concerns regarding the alignment of future transmission lines.

Since the project falls under the jurisdiction of the Centre, discussions will also be held with officials of the central government along with MSETCL authorities before a decision is taken, he said.

Fadnavis also appealed to local residents to cooperate, warning that opposition to the green corridor could have an impact on Pune’s development. He said efforts should be made to arrive at a middle ground that safeguards local interests while ensuring the city’s future power requirements are met.

MP Supriya Sule, MSETCL chairman and managing director Vikram Kumar, MLA Shankar Mandekar, Sangram Thorat, president of the Bhor-Rajgad Substation and Tower Line Removal Action Committee, villagers and officials of Adani Power attended the meeting. Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi participated through video conferencing.
