Rakhis Head to 125 Countries From Pune GPO On Raksha Bandhan
Pune, 28th August 2026: The Pune General Post Office (GPO) has witnessed a significant rise in the number of people sending rakhis to relatives across India and abroad. More than 3,000 rakhis have been booked for delivery to different states in India and around 125 countries over the past 15 to 20 days.
The bookings have generated revenue of more than Rs 2 lakh for the Pune GPO, officials said.
The postal department has introduced special facilities to help Indians living abroad for employment, business and education receive rakhis from their sisters in time for Raksha Bandhan. The facility at the Pune GPO allows residents to send rakhis to around 125 countries, providing an alternative to private courier services.
The demand for sending rakhis to different parts of the country has also increased ahead of the festival. For international deliveries, rakhis are processed through the international postal service and dispatched to the respective countries after completing the required formalities.
Postal officials said there has been a noticeable increase in rakhi bookings over the past two to three weeks as families prepare to celebrate Raksha Bandhan despite being separated by distance.
