Pune: Six Designated Parking Facilities Made Available for Trucks in Chakan-Talegaon Industrial Belt
Chakan, 29th August 2026: In a move aimed at easing traffic congestion in the Chakan-Talegaon industrial belt, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has made six designated locations available for parking trucks, trailers and other vehicles.
The move is significant as roadside parking by heavy vehicles has been a major contributor to traffic congestion in the industrial corridor. The newly identified spaces are intended to provide transporters and vehicle owners with alternatives to parking along busy roads.
According to an MIDC public notice, three parking facilities have been developed at Chakan Phase 2, Talegaon Phase 1 and Talegaon Phase 2. These three facilities together can accommodate 173 trucks and 153 trailers, taking the total capacity to 323 vehicles. The Talegaon Phase 1 and Phase 2 facilities have been newly developed and are available for parking different types of vehicles.
MIDC has also identified vacant spaces in Chakan Phases 2, 3 and 4 on a temporary basis for use as truck terminals. Of the six locations, the facility at Chakan Phase 2, plot AM 2/2, will be available at a nominal charge, while the other five locations have been made available free of cost.
The initiative comes after Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi had earlier announced that MIDC land and grazing (gayaran) land in and around the Chakan MIDC area would be made available free of cost for parking. The decision was aimed at ensuring that heavy vehicles do not occupy roads and contribute to traffic bottlenecks in the industrial belt.
The district administration and traffic police have also been taking action against illegal roadside parking. Traffic police have launched enforcement drives against heavy vehicles parked on roads and have been issuing challans, towing vehicles and using wheel clamps to prevent repeat violations.
The availability of designated parking spaces is expected to strengthen the administration’s efforts to keep roads in the industrial area free of parked heavy vehicles. MIDC has appealed to industrialists, vehicle owners, drivers and other stakeholders to use the designated parking facilities and cooperate with the administration in reducing traffic congestion.
Designated parking locations:
1. Chakan MIDC Phase 2, Plot AM 2/2 — capacity for 50 trucks and 60 trailers; nominal charges.
2. Talegaon MIDC Phase 1, Plot AM-14 — capacity for 44 trucks and 24 trailers; free parking.
3. Talegaon MIDC Phase 2, Plot AM-5 — capacity for 79 trucks and 69 trailers; free parking.
4. Chakan MIDC Phase 3, GB-2 open space — temporary truck parking; free.
5. Chakan MIDC Phase 2, open space near Hartman Circle — temporary truck parking; free.
6. Chakan MIDC Phase 4, Mahindra company area — temporary truck parking; free.
The MIDC notice states that vehicle owners and drivers should use the designated locations to help ease congestion and support the administration’s efforts to improve traffic movement in the Chakan-Talegaon industrial area.
