Pune to Get 50 New Wheelchair Ramps as PMC, RampMyCity Sign MoU
Pune, 31st August 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RampMyCity to improve accessibility at public infrastructure across the city, with CSR support from Bajaj Finserv.
Under the first phase of the initiative, 50 wheelchair access ramps will be installed at public locations across Pune. The ramps are intended to improve access to civic buildings, cultural spaces, parks and other public facilities for wheelchair users, senior citizens and people with reduced mobility.
The initiative is part of the broader “Building a Purple Pune” vision, which seeks to improve accessibility and inclusion in public infrastructure.
While the first phase will focus on wheelchair access through ramps, the partnership plans to introduce additional accessibility solutions in subsequent phases to address different barriers faced by persons with disabilities.
The collaboration brings together PMC’s public infrastructure and administrative reach, RampMyCity’s accessibility expertise and CSR funding from Bajaj Finserv.
Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure said the initiative would help remove barriers and improve access to public spaces.
“Our vision is to build an inclusive Pune where every citizen has equal access to the city and its public spaces. I fully support this initiative, which is an important step towards removing barriers and ensuring that persons with disabilities can participate in the life of our city with dignity and independence,” Nagpure said.
PMC Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said accessibility should be incorporated into the development and improvement of public infrastructure.
“Accessibility must be an integral part of the way we develop and improve our public infrastructure. This initiative will bring practical accessibility improvements to public spaces across Pune and is an important step towards making our city more inclusive and citizen-friendly,” Ram said.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Pavneet Kaur said the civic body would look to expand such interventions across Pune.
“Accessibility is an important part of building an inclusive and citizen-friendly Pune. Through this partnership, we are taking practical steps to improve access to public infrastructure for persons with disabilities. We look forward to expanding such interventions across the city and making Pune increasingly accessible for everyone,” Kaur said.
Dr Aman Preet Kaur, National Lead, Bajaj Finserv CSR, said inclusive infrastructure could help persons with disabilities participate more independently in everyday life.
“Creating inclusive infrastructure enables persons with disabilities to participate more independently in everyday life. We are pleased to support this initiative with PMC and RampMyCity and contribute towards meaningful accessibility improvements across Pune,” she said.
RampMyCity founder Prateek Khandelwal said the installation of ramps at 50 public locations would be the first step towards a wider accessibility initiative.
“Making 50 public locations wheelchair accessible will create greater independence and dignity for persons with disabilities and reduced mobility. But this is only the beginning. Our larger vision of Building a Purple Pune is to progressively remove accessibility barriers across the city and make Pune truly inclusive for everyone,” Khandelwal said.
The first phase is expected to serve as the foundation for expanding accessibility interventions to more public locations and introducing additional solutions in subsequent phases.
