Sanitation Worker Killed After Being Hit by Truck at Pune Garbage Depot
Pune, 3rd September 2026: A 27-year-old sanitation worker was killed after being hit by a garbage transportation truck at a Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) garbage depot in Kale Padal, Hadapsar, on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sunil Hanumant Gurav, a resident of Basavakalyan in Karnataka. Police said Gurav and the truck driver involved in the incident were both contractual workers engaged in garbage transportation operations.
According to police, the incident took place around 11.30 pm on August 31, when a truck entered the depot premises to collect garbage. Gurav was on duty at the time. The truck allegedly hit him while manoeuvring inside the depot, police said.
Gurav sustained serious injuries in the collision. The truck driver fled the spot without informing the police or alerting authorities about the accident.
Police Inspector Annasaheb Babar visited the site after receiving information about the incident. A case has been registered against the truck driver, who remains absconding.
Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident, including how the truck was being operated inside the depot at the time of the incident.
