Hinjawadi High-Power Committee Holds First Meeting; Rs 426 Crore Cleared for Internal Roads

Pune, 4th September 2026: The first meeting of the high-power committee formed to address the long-standing infrastructure and civic issues in Hinjawadi was held at the Pune Collectorate on Friday, with officials directed to expedite work on roads, traffic management, Metro connectivity, public transport, water supply and other essential infrastructure.

A fund of ₹426 crore has been approved for the development of internal roads in the Hinjawadi IT Park area. Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi directed the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to initiate the necessary action immediately.

He also directed the agencies to prioritise works at locations witnessing severe traffic congestion.

Dudi was speaking at the first meeting of the high-power committee constituted to address issues in Hinjawadi. MLAs Shankar Mandekar and Babaji Kale, Additional Collector Satish Raut, Resident Deputy Collector Jyoti Kadam, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Traffic DCP Vikrant Deshmukh, and residents from Hinjawadi, Maan and Marunji villages attended the meeting.

Focus on Metro last-mile connectivity

The committee emphasised that the traffic problem in Hinjawadi cannot be addressed through road repairs alone. An integrated transport system involving the Metro, public transport, pedestrian infrastructure, cycling facilities and last-mile connectivity needs to be developed.

A proposal has been made to develop approximately 19.1 km of roads for last-mile connectivity to Metro stations in the Hinjawadi area. This includes around 7.225 km of roads in the PMRDA area and 11.974 km in the MIDC area.

The proposed roads will connect Metro stations with IT companies, residential societies and nearby villages. The planning will include dedicated and safe infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists in addition to facilities for vehicular traffic.

Under the last-mile connectivity plan, roads within approximately 500 metres to 1.5 km of Metro stations will be developed. Proposed facilities include paved footpaths, cycle tracks, tactile pathways, safe pedestrian crossings, street lighting and directional signage.

The authorities have also been directed to ensure that the facilities are accessible to persons with disabilities.

To encourage Metro usage, the plan includes bus stops, shuttle and feeder bus services, auto-rickshaw stands and bus bays near Metro stations. Public bicycle-sharing facilities are also being considered.

Planned parking facilities near Metro stations are expected to help reduce congestion caused by unauthorised roadside parking.

Integrated utility planning proposed
The road development plan will also include storm-water drainage, proper planning for water and sewage pipelines, dedicated utility corridors for electricity and optical-fibre cables, and provisions for gas pipelines.

The integrated approach is intended to minimise repeated road excavation for utility works in the future and ensure that various civic services are planned together.

PMRDA has also been directed to take necessary steps for the development of six Development Plan (DP) roads in Hinjawadi, Maan and Marunji.

Officials were asked to factor in future traffic growth while planning roads, pedestrian facilities, cycle tracks and public transport.

Traffic study, transit hub planned
Dudi directed the authorities to conduct an immediate scientific traffic study and formulate measures based on its findings to strengthen public transport in Hinjawadi.

Efforts should also be made to develop a transit hub in the area, he said. Officials have been asked to examine the feasibility of using available land for a PMPML depot and explore alternative locations for a new depot, with a report to be submitted on the matter.

Long-term water supply under discussion
The meeting was informed that discussions are underway with Tata regarding making water from Mulshi Dam available to address Hinjawadi’s long-term water requirements.

Officials are also working on long-term water supply planning, keeping in mind the growing population of the IT Park and surrounding areas.

With electricity demand also increasing, officials have been directed to submit a report on land required for a new Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) substation.

The committee also discussed the need for public amenities, including playgrounds, a cultural centre and green public spaces for residents.

PCMC to handle Hinjawadi waste
A decision was also taken on waste management in the Hinjawadi area. Waste generated in the area will be disposed of through the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).

Waste generated in adjoining gram panchayat areas will have to be transported by the respective gram panchayats to a PCMC facility. The administration will provide garbage collection vehicles for the purpose.

AI-based CCTV cameras planned
To strengthen security in Hinjawadi, the police department will install artificial intelligence (AI)-based CCTV cameras in the area. Dudi said the district administration would provide funds for the installation.

To reduce congestion on internal roads, the entry of heavy vehicles carrying construction material has already been restricted during morning and evening peak hours. The concerned agencies have been instructed to ensure effective implementation of the restriction.

Collector to inspect Hinjawadi next week
The proposed infrastructure improvements are expected to strengthen Metro connectivity, reduce travel time and dependence on private vehicles, lower fuel consumption and pollution, and improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

The measures are also aimed at improving mobility for IT employees, local residents and businesses operating in and around Hinjawadi.

Dudi will visit Hinjawadi next week to inspect the progress of various development works. He directed all concerned departments to begin work on the instructions issued during the meeting and submit action-taken reports before his visit.
