Vineet Gupta Takes Charge as Director General of IRICEN Pune

Pune, 5th September 2026: Vineet Gupta, an Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) officer, took charge as Director General of the Indian Railway Institute of Civil Engineering (IRICEN), Pune, on September 2.

Gupta was previously serving as Chief Administrative Officer (Construction), Western Railway, Churchgate, Mumbai, a position he held since July 10, 2023.

A member of the 1988 batch of IRSE, Gupta joined Indian Railways in 1990 as an Assistant Divisional Engineer at Igatpuri, Central Railway.

Over his career, he has held several engineering and administrative positions across Indian Railways, including Divisional Railway Manager, Ratlam, Western Railway; Senior Professor (Bridge), IRICEN; Chief Engineer (Construction), Central Railway; Secretary to General Manager; Deputy Chief Engineer (Construction), Central Railway; Senior Divisional Engineer (Coordination), Bhusaval; and Divisional Engineer, Central Railway.

Gupta is an alumnus of Maulana Azad College of Technology, Bhopal.

Worked on Major Railway Infrastructure Projects

Gupta has been associated with several major railway infrastructure projects during his career. His work includes the 155-km Amravati–Narkhed new line, 42-km Diva–Vasai doubling project, construction of Platforms 16, 17 and 18 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, and the seventh line between CSMT and Wadi Bunder.

He has also worked on various civil engineering and bridge projects.

As Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) of Western Railway, Gupta was involved in doubling, gauge conversion and new line projects undertaken by the zone.

He has undergone international training programmes in Malaysia and Singapore and has travelled extensively during his professional career.

Gupta takes an interest in sports, railway history and heritage, and socio-cultural activities.

His appointment places him at the helm of IRICEN, the Indian Railways institute responsible for professional training and development in civil engineering disciplines.
