Pune: Minister Ashish Shelar Directs Officials to Act Against Unauthorised Constructions Near Shivneri Fort Within 7 Days
Junnar, 10th September 2026: Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar has directed officials to take action against unauthorised constructions in the buffer zone of historic Shivneri Fort within seven days.
The directions were issued during a meeting at Mantralaya to review measures for protecting the fort, the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Officials will use the Centre’s ‘Netra’ app to determine whether the structures in and around the fort are old or have been constructed recently. Satellite imagery will be compared with data from the state government’s ‘Maha State’ system to establish the chronology of the constructions.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will also conduct a physical inspection of the Shivneri area and submit a report to the district collector on whether any rules have been violated.
Shelar directed the concerned departments to initiate necessary action based on the findings and ensure that unauthorised constructions in the protected area are dealt with promptly.
